Set along the picturesque Aldeburgh High Street, Thompson’s Gallery has been a firm fixture in the town for just under 30 years. Right now, the gallery is proud to be holding the first ever show by selected members of the Pastel Society UK in East Anglia. The Pastel Society UK was founded in 1898 and [...]
On Monday 26th June Charlotte and I paid a visit to the ColourDome which had returned for two days for the Ip-Art festival. Mounted like a cluster of giant swelled blobs atop Cornhill, the ColourDome sat waiting for us. It was free to enter and we were given an oversized tunic in a block colour [...]
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Derek Wray, master storyteller who gave me a short tour of Colchester for the new issue of Coastal Life Essex. This wasn’t just any tour however, but one filled with scandal, blood, secrets and spooks, as I learned about the unusual myths and gruesome past that this [...]
Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing John Peel’s Shed as part of the Pulse Fringe Festival. Having never been to a production in Suffolk before, I was not sure what to expect and hoping that it would be fun. I was pleasantly surprised by John Osborne’s witty and thought-provoking dialogue, expecting a perhaps more [...]
I seem to be using lunchtime as a perfect excuse to discover different things about Suffolk and visiting new places near Archant’s office in Ipswich. Today I took a stroll along St. Peter’s Street and marvelled at the beautiful shops on and around it. These little boutiques are perfect for sprucing up your home with [...]
While making the most of my Double Bank Holiday Week, I found myself at the charming pub The Butt and Oyster. Inset cosily by the River Orwell, in the heart of former smuggling haven Pin Mill, this prime location was full to the brim with locals and visitors alike making the most of the sunshine. [...]
As well as discovering new areas, much of the joy of exploring Suffolk is about revisitng old favourites or finally getting around to visiting somewhere very close by. Charlotte Smith-Jarvis spent the double Bank Holiday out and about with her family, including an expedition to Woodbridge and Snape Maltings. Here she tells us about her [...]

There is so much information and history in Suffolk, [...]

This week, I seem to have been all over the place – in the Woodbridge and Framlingham area and also further affield in Dunwich. I really love the landscapes associated with the latter – ancient, beautifully well established and unspoilt. Dunwich is a truly interesting village having once been one of the country’s biggest ports. Evidence [...]
