Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm

Baylham House Farm is a wonderful place to take children. It is often described as having a magical quality not found elsewhere and was voted “The Best Visitor Experience” in Suffolk for both 2006 and 2007.

The primary aim of the farm is to help maintain the national stock of endangered and rare farm animals by breeding them and providing them with the best possible care in a traditional, non-intensive environment. The secondary aim is to provide visitors, particularly children, with an opportunity to meet healthy, contented and friendly farm animals. Four breeds of cattle and seven flocks of rare sheep can be seen at Baylham House. Berkshire, Large Black, Middle White can all be seen in the pig collection which also includes Kune Kunes the very friendly Maori pigs from New Zealand. You will also find goats, poultry and alpacas on the farm.

Baylham House Farm is an excellent place to come with a picnic lunch, to meet a variety of animals, take a walk along the riverside and lakeside paths and spend the day in the countryside within the Gipping Valley. The majority of the paths are wheelchair and pushchair friendly and, when you’ve had your fill of fresh air and the children are exhausted, you can recover with a light lunch, a cream tea or a choice of home made cakes in the Visitors’ Centre, which also sells a wide selection of gifts. A disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available.
