Honeymoon in The French Alps
WOW! You can’t failed to be impressed by the sheer magnificence of the Alps. If your idea of the perfect honeymoon involves taverns with log fires, mountainside adventures, shopping for curiosities in ancient towns, and dining on Fine French cuisine, this part of France is a winner.
Lac D’Annecy claims to be the purest lake in Europe, with its namesake town, Annecy, declared the Venice of the Savoie.
The hotel: L’abbaye de Talloires, Talloires
This impressive hotel sits proudly against the banks of Lac D’Annecy and is the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Once a chapel, and then a monastery, the abbey on site was built in the 17th century and boasts stunning views, a beach, fine dining restaurants, an historical wine cellar and a wellbeing centre with a jacuzzi and sauna.
The hotel is somewhere you can really feel like royalty.
The accommodation:
L’abbaye has 31 rooms, each with unforgettable views. Rooms have either king or queen-sized beds, a bathtub or massage shower, Pascal Morabito bath products, bathrobes and slippers, satellite TV, Wifi and room service.
Suites are available too.
A three-night honeymoon package in a junior suite includes three buffet breakfasts, one tasting menu without drinks, a bottle of champagne, one relaxation massage and a boat trip with the hotel motor boat.
The food:
Keen foodies will be in heaven at the hotel. Aux Jardins Des Delices uses fresh market produce, fish from the lake, local meat and herbs from the abbey garden to create imaginative and exquisite cuisine.
For a more informal (but just as romantic) meal head to Terrace Cezanne, where you’ll be surrounded by fragrant lime trees while you take in the views.
Places to visit:
Take a day trip to Annecy.
Visit nearby Geneva.
Follow a hiking trail in the mountains (the hotel can arrange a mountain spot and picnic for you).
Have a go at hand-gliding.
Pay a visit to one of the lake’s towns such as Thones, La Clusaz or Faverges or go further afield to Evian or even chic Val D’isere.
Take a cruise on the Annecy Lake Ecotour from Talloires. Discover the hidden wonders of the lake, including a look at the village ruins through the bathyscope. See lakeside nature reserves and cruise over to the 200ft cliffs of Roc de Chere, which is only accessible by boat.
Take time out in Annecy at the E’space Premium Spa where you can indulge in a Hammam ritual.
