Saint Lucia – a tropical island getaway
This month’s top pick from Nicola Atkinson at Fred Olsen Travel
Destination: Saint Lucia
The world’s first couples-only boutique resort, Rendezvous can be found right next to Saint Lucia’s biggest shoreline, where the crystal clear blue water laps the perfect white sands.
The hotel is set in a botanical garden where, at its heart, lies a giant ancient tree, which becomes a focal point in the evenings as it dazzles guests with hundreds of tiny fairylights.
This all-inclusive resort promises pampering, luxury and lots of me time with no gimmicks.
Activities include swimming in the pool, scuba lessons, relaxing in the jacuzzi and enjoying massages and therapies in the water garden spa.
Included in the price of your holiday is accommodation, land and watersports, use of the facilities, breakfast, lunch and dinner, all drinks including premium brand alcohol and wine by the bottle at dinner, a cocktail party every Wednesday, taxes and gratuities.
Accommodation
Your room is your sanctuary. All accommodation at Rendezvous is decorated in a chic Caribbean style with solid maple four-poster beds, a balcony or terrace, marble floors and a private bath with a tub and shower.
For your special occasion chilled sparkling wine can be arranged on arrival and you can add extra touches such as breakfast in bed or a night in with chilled wine and chocolate dipped fruits.
Food
There are two restaurants to choose from. Breakfast and lunch are served in the Terrace restaurant which has sea views and a good range of offerings.
By night, the Terrace is candlelit for romantic suppers to the sound of the sea.
For fine dining, book a table at The Trysting Place where you’ll find an a la carte menu, fine bone china, crystal glasses, damask linens and guitar music.
There are also three bars to choose from.
Saint Lucia is bountiful when it comes to historical, cultural and stunning natural sites – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Edmund Forest Reserve gives you the opportunity to trek through the lush greenery with a guide, brushing past colourful orchids and bromeliads. As you emerge from the forest you’ll get a close-up view of Mount Gimie, the highest peak on Saint Lucia.
More than 60% of species in the forest on Saint Lucia live in the treetop canopy, but you needn’t miss out as you can enjoy a tram ride up above from Rain Forest Sky Rides. See the creatures that live in the clouds, as well as the jaw-dropping views over to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. www.rainforesttrams.com
Bath in natural hot spring mineral baths at the Soufriere Estate’s Diamond Botanical Gardens.
Or if you’re feeling really active why not try climbing the Gros Piton?
