Real life: Emma and Kris

We take a peek inside the wedding of Emma and Kris Page
A bit about us
Kris works for a printing company in Colchester and I am a police community support officer for Suffolk Police. We’ve recently moved into our second home together in a quiet rural Suffolk village.
How we met
We met in 2002 through a mutual friend. My friend asked me out to lunch and said that she’d been asked by a friend of hers to give me his number. She said that it was her friend Kristian that really liked me. I took a mobile number and sent Kris a text.
We texted each other for a couple of days and finally met up in Ipswich. As of September 1 we were officially an item.
The proposal
Kris took me to the Swallow Hotel in Fornham St Genieve near Bury St Edmunds for Valentine’s Day 2005. We had just finished our main course and Kris got up from his seat, walking around to my side of the table with a Me to You Bear in his hands.
The bear had a heart box in its paws. Kris opened the box and inside was my engagement ring. We were right in the corner of the restaurant, which worked to Kris’s advantage as he didn’t have to do it in front of everyone.
The planning
We set the date in September 2008. We knew that we wanted a traditional church wedding and we both really liked Rushmere St Andrew Church and I’d lived in the village for nearly 10 years before I moved. Once the church and reception were booked we started to get things bit by bit for the wedding.
The dress
I got my dress from Beautiful Designs in Ipswich. I knew there was only one wedding dress shop where I wanted to look for my dress as I’d heard great reviews. I picked up a few dresses from the shelves to try on and see which styles suited me. The dress that I went for was the first dress I picked up and the last one I tried on. As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the right dress. It was flattering and was just what I was looking for.
The flowers
We went with Kaye Souter Flowers. Kris’s brother and sister-in-law’s flowers were arranged by her at their wedding in August 2008. The flowers that we had for our wedding were amazing and really complimented everything.
The ceremony
The service was just what we wanted. We chose Lord of the Dance and Amazing Grace as our hymns and we asked our godmothers to choose a reading.. The ceremony was exactly how we imagined it to be.
The rings
We bought our rings with money that was left to us by Kris’s nana who died suddenly in December 2008. We wanted to have something to permanently have that would be a reminder of her.
The reception
We had the reception at Ufford Park Hotel. To us nothing else compared to Ufford Park. The Deben Suite where we had our reception overlooked the golf course and the room was airy.
The catering
The food we had at the wedding was amazing. At the wedding breakfast we had salmon to start, followed by roast beef with all the trimmings and profiteroles for dessert as they are Kris’s favourite. The food we had for the evening reception was hot baps with sausage, bacon and mushroom with Stilton. It was simple food but it went down really well with all our guests.
The cake
We knew that we wanted a simple but beautiful cake. We saw a design we liked in a wedding cake magazine and we thought that it would really work. We’d decided that we wanted three tiers for the cake with cupcakes around the bottom. I am a coeliac and I have to follow a wheat and gluten-free diet. We knew which cake company we wanted to go with – Vanilla Patisserie based in Leiston. My favourite part was to see what cake we wanted for which tiers and cupcakes. Kris got a whole plate of ‘normal’ cake to try and I had a big plate of gluten-free cake to try. It was like I had Christmas and my birthday all in one eating this fabulous cake. Our cake was amazing, following the black and hot pink theme.
The entertainment
We chose Blackjack Disco as our entertainment for the evening as they had a fantastic reputation in our area.
The photography
The photographer was Darren Perry who runs Addison-Mcgrath Photography. He came highly recommended by my mum as her work colleague is Darren’s wife.
Most memorable moment
The organist, the choir and the bell ringers not being at the church on time for the wedding to start! The organist was still eating his Chinese in Ipswich Town Centre. The wedding started half an hour late!
The honeymoon
We had a week away at Longleat Centre Parcs after the wedding but the main honeymoon was in May 2010 at Disneyland Florida.
Plans for the future
We plan to have a family within the next couple of years and plan to have a couple of West Highland Terriers.
