MEN, it is not just your ladies that have to dress-up for your big day, no, you really have to make an effort too.

There are several varieties of suit to choose from in menswear departments, in an array of colours and fancy designs, so you too can indulge in a bit of retail therapy for the wedding.

But before you go gallivanting-off to look for a suit, do check the on colour scheme of the wedding with your wife-to-be beforehand, as she will be very angry if you turn-up in red, when there is a pink theme!

Hiring is the most popular option for suits for the groom’s party, especially if you don’t plan on wearing the outfit again.

And if all of your party hires matching outfits from the same shop, you could walk away with a great bargain.

There are several types of suit that you will be able to choose from and, similarly to wedding dresses, you should think about the time of year and place you are marrying in. Pick from:

Morning suit – most wedding used to be in the morning, and these suits are still preferred by most grooms. This is s combination of penguin dress coat, top hats, contrasting trousers, a wing collar shirt, a coloured waistcoat and a cravat.

Black tie – this outfit is usually worn for an afternoon do. It consists of a black dinner jacket, tapered trousers, braces, a cotton or silk shirt and a cummerbund.

White tie – this is the most formal option and includes a black coat with silk facings, dress trousers, a white waistcoat, dress shirt and tie. You must leave some white cuff showing just below the sleeve and the waistcoat should just cover the waistband of the trousers.

Frock coat – this offers many colours and styles including thick brocade coats with intricate velvet detail.

Uniform – if you are in the military or police force you may want to wear your uniform.

Kilt – a popular option for Celts.

Casual wear – if you are having a wedding abroad look for a light white linen suit for the occasion.

After you have chosen a suit your tailor will take measurements of your waist, inner leg, sleeves, collar and height, to ensure the perfect fit for your weddings day.

But don’t just stop with the suit. Accessorise with cufflinks, a nice buttonhole, braces, a swanky watch and good quality shoes. And finish your look off with a manicure, facial and haircut to make you look as smart as you did on your first date together.
