Julie’s step-by-step bridal make-up routine

Every bride wants to look radiant on her wedding day. Your wedding day will see you be the centre of attention for the entire day. Everyone will be looking at you so you want to look your best. As your makeup plays an important role in complimenting your features, gown and accessories, it is important to apply beautiful makeup, so why not take a few tips from a professional makeup artist? Julie Cooper is a regional makeup artist for celebrity makeup artist Daniel Sandler, is regularly featured on local radio as a makeup expert and has personally trained by Daniel Sandler, makeup artist to the stars.

Follow Julie’s simple steps to create a wedding makeup look which lasts all day and looks photographically perfect. Julie recommends applying the products with professional makeup brushes, as application will be easier.

  • Start with a good skincare routine. Cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin, using a light moisturizer
  • Use a primer. This will make your foundation last much longer, and will prevent the skin from shining, as well as filling in open pores and fine lines. Try the Daniel Sandler Retexturizing Primer (£20).
  • Choose a foundation that exactly matches your skin. Always check a foundation along the jaw line to be certain you will not be left with a tide-mark. Extend towards the neck area.  Look at the colour in natural daylight. This is the trick to finding the right foundation.  I recommend the Daniel Sandler Super Mineral Makeup (£21), which gives the skin a natural, dewy look.
  • Concealer is great to get rid of any unwanted shadows that still persist after the foundation. Apply the concealer under the eyes and gently blend with a concealer brush. For any blemishes, apply a thicker concealer, pat the product onto the blemish using a concealer brush and gently pat with your finger – repeat this process until you have achieved the required coverage.
  • To set the foundation and concealer in place, you need to use powder. Make sure it does not alter the colour of the foundation. Both foundation and powder should be the same colour. Try the Daniel Sandler On The Loose Powder (£15), this will keep your skin shine free, so your skin does not look greasy in your photographs and don’t forget to powder your eyelids, as this will be the base for your eyeshadows and will stop your eyeshadow from creasing throughout the day.
  • If you want more colour, apply bronzer where the sun would naturally hit you, like on the forehead, temples, cheek bones and chin.
  • Apply blusher to the apples of your cheeks, blending upwards. The Daniel Sandler Watercolour blush (£11) is perfect.
  • For your eyes, a look which is fresh and pretty is easy to achieve – apply a light colour on the brow bone, to make the brow look more lifted, apply a pretty taupe/ shimmer pink colour on the lid and then apply an eyeliner to the top lash line for a more natural look. For a more dramatic look, also apply the liner to the lower lashline.
  • Follow with two generous coats of black mascara – curl your lashes first, for glamorous, long lashes, the Daniel Sandler Baby Jet Mascara (£12.50) is an amazing mascara, which covers every part of the lashes from root to tip.
  • Whether you prefer lipstick or gloss, use a lip liner similar to the colour of your choice and blend using a cotton bud. This will prevent the lipstick/gloss from bleeding.
  • When applying lipstick, blot with a tissue and reapply to get a more lasting effect.
