AWARD-WINNING florist Kaye Souter’s love affair with flowers began very early in her life.
As a young girl she’d collect pretty wildflowers and press them – perhaps inspired by her grandfather, who had a career as head gardener at a large country house.
After leaving school, Kaye knew she’d one day become a florist, taking professional while getting to know the trade on the job at some top Suffolk florists.
It was 10 years ago this November though, that Kaye finally realised her dream and set-up her own freelance business, bringing her passion for fresh, beautiful flowers and foliage to the wedding market and beyond.
Along the way she’s picked up many accolades and on the wedding circuit in Suffolk, Kaye’s name is one that pops up time and time again as a recommendation.
After receiving a price list, Kaye shows all couples slideshows and portfolios for an idea not only of what you like, but what you don’t like.
Bookings are then confirmed with a £25 deposit and a consultation roughly 12 to 18 months before your wedding day. Kaye likes to talk through the colours you like, any themes running through your day, your dress style – anything to give her inspiration for your arrangements.
All of the flowers used by Kaye are delivered to order and arrive at her studio, in leafy Rushmere St Andrew, only a day or two before each wedding at the peak of freshness. Some couples even report the flowers still being in tip top condition up to two weeks after their wedding.
Talking about flower choices, Kaye says: “There isn’t any one flower I like. I love each season and all of the fresh flowers as they come into season, such as the blues and pinks of sweetpeas and delphiniums in the summer and rich golds and reds of orchids and amaryllis in winter. I only buy the best, top quality flowers and I really look after them.”
As well as creating a variety of bouquets and buttonholes, and providing flowers for bridal hair and cakes, Kaye is known for her stunning table and free-standing floral arrangements, which breathe colour and life into any venue.
For a fragrant floral entrance take a look at Kaye’s topiary trees. For that romantic effect how about fishbowls filled with roses placed on mirrors bedecked with tealights? Or, for a glitzy look, why not show-off with giant martini glasses overflowing with blooms?
Kaye has virtually every type of vase, urn, goblet or candelabra you can think of – all of which are hired free of charge. The finishing touches of ribbon, pearl trimmings, feathers and twinkles are fabulous too.
On the big day all flowers are personally delivered (for a small charge) by Kaye or one of her two dedicated florists, who ensure they arrive in tip-top condition.
To make the service even more personal, all bouquets come with their own photograph and a card detailing the varieties that have been used as a special keepsake.
