Best Food Pub

sponsored by The West Wing at Ickworth

The West Wing at Ickworth House was never finished and laid empty until 2006, when a joint partnership between the National Trust and Sodexo Prestige led to its renovation and opening as a centre for conferences and events. The first wedding in the property’s history took place in 2006.

The West Wing comprises of the Gallery with the stunning views over the estate, ideal for up to 220 guests for a conference or dinner, the more intimate Court for smaller functions or meetings for 60 people; and the Engine Room for 20 delegates. The Restaurant and the adjacent Orangery can be also hired for special occasions and receptions.

Judges will be looking in particular at the following:

  • Use of locally sourced produce incorporated into a selection of dishes, showing variety, healthy options and other dietary considerations
  • A well presented bar with a range of drinks to complement the menus, including the wine list, and locally sourced soft drinks
  • Presentation of food
  • Evidence of specialist skills – in the preparation, presentation and production of the food
  • Value for money
  • A warm and friendly atmosphere and welcome which exceeds the expectation of the customers
  • Staff awareness of menu(s) and as appropriate, an ability to explain the locality and choice of the ingredients
  • Meeting customer needs, both in the production of the food and in the service area
